ZOO-NYE: A Story of the Village

Jane March spent over ten years researching the beginnings, growth and decline of the Town of Zuni, Virginia. During that time, she became enamored by the rich history of this little town and has established the Zuni Historical Society to preserve this town's history. As part of this project, Jane has gathered over 300 years of history into her book Zoo-Nye: A Story of the Village. Jane plans to write another book on Zuni. She also is working on establishing a Zuni Museum and encourages anyone with knowledge about the town of Zuni to contact her.

This town's hidden history begins in 15th century when rivers were utilized much as we use highways today. It was along the Blackwater River that this town had its prosperous beginnings although, prior to Jane's research, the village had been thought to be one of the many "railroad" towns that had sprung up along the Norfolk-Petersburg Railroad.

Jane's book reveals the true origins of this town and traces its rich history. Her research covers the town's critical role in the Civil War, its industry, the floods, the fires, and the people.

After reading Zoo-Nye: A Story of the Village, you will never look at a small town in quite the same way.
